Hip-hop producer and Businessman J. Wells founded Bonzi Records in 2005 by releasing his debut album "Digital Master" independently. The album sold over fifty thousand units out the trunk catching the attention of Universal Music Distribution then Presidents Ron Spaulding & Jim Urie. The company signed a global distribution deal with Universal / Fontana in 2006. The company launched its first commercial release in 2007 with Kurupt & J Wells "Digital Smoke". The album sold massively throughout the west coast and garnished major press coverage from LA Times, XXL, and Source magazine.

The company went on to release in 2009 “Get Addicted” by J Ro of Tha Liks, J Wells "Digital Master" Vol. 2, and in 2009 Bonzi Records signed D. Woods of Danity Kane and released “Legalize Me”, In 2010 Bonzi released Kokane’s sixth solo album “Gimme All Mine”. In 2011 the company released “The Academy” compilation which features: Jadakiss, Styles P, Redman, Method, Kurupt, Royce Da 5’9 and over 50 MC’s on one album. Bonzi released Lil Scrappy’ “The Grustle” LP in 2012. The album sold massive singles, including “Helicopter” Feat. 2 Chainz, & Twista, and “No Love”, featured on VH1’s Love & Hip Hop.

In 2012, the company released "The Grustle" by Lil Scrappy. The same year after Universal-Fontana was absorbed by Ingrooves the president appointed Bonzi Records to handle official consultant and aggregator services for new labels and existing labels. This agreement led to Bonzi creating a label service division of the company entitled Bonzi Label Services. Through label services division the company handle marketing campaigns and administration for Sir Michael Rocks, King Chip, Casey Veggies, Orlando Jones, Ruff Ryders, Donell Jones, Lloyd, Kenny Lattimore, Ray-J, The Game and others. Bonzi label service division recently inked a deal with Empire distribution as an official aggregator for artist driven digital labels. Under this contract Bonzi handles all marketing and administration services for its sub-labels distributed by Empire.

In 2015 Bonzi Records was absorbed into AMJ Global Entertainment. Bonzi Records now operates as a subsidiary of AMJ Global Entertainment. Under this venture the company released Clevlafornia by Cleveland rapper and Kid Cudi affiliate King Chip.
